Welcome to Watts School, home of the Knights! We are part of the New Designs Charter School family in south Los Angeles, California, and serve approximately 500 students in sixth through twelfth grades.

A Message from Our Principal

Greetings, NDC-Watts Parents, Families, and Students,,

Welcome to the 2024–2025 school year at New Designs Charter School-Watts.

We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health and high spirits. As we commence a new school year, we would like to welcome all our returning families warmly and sincerely a knowledge new families joining our school community for the first time.

NDC-WATTS is committed to providing all students with a safe, nurturing, and rigorous learning atmosphere. Our school team is eager to inspire and support students' academic progress.

Our school team has been hard at work throughout the summer to prepare the school for the first day of school - Tuesday, August 13, 2024. The campus will be open at 7:00 a.m. The first bell rings at 8:25 a.m., and the tardy bell rings at 8:30 a.m.

Below is some important information for the start of the new school year:

Good Attendance is the Key
Regular and on-time attendance is critical for all students. Student success and achievement are dependent upon regular attendance. Whether excused or unexcused, students absent from school miss significant classroom instruction. Hence, all students are expected to attend all classes each day on time. 

First Day of School
School starts on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Students are expected to be in class by 8:30 a.m.

Morning Arrival
The campus will be open at 7:00 a.m.

Late Arrivals
The front entrance gates will close at 8:45 a.m. Students arriving late to school need to enter through the main entrance of the building, sign in upon arrival, and then visit the NDC-WATTS main office for a late pass before heading to class.

Student Class Schedules
Students arriving on Tuesday, August 13, will continue to the east end of the campus (P.E. area). They will find class and bell schedules at the designated tables (A–Z). The table will contain the student's name and advisory room number. Students will receive their class schedule for the semester.

What to Expect During the First Week of School
Schedule - Wednesday, August 14 is an early release day for students; dismissal will be at 1:45 p.m. Every Wednesday is an early dismissal day.

Student Technology and Textbooks
Student technology and textbooks will be distributed during the school's first and second weeks.

Picture Day
Picture Day will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024. To take an individualized picture, all students must wear the prescribed uniform of NDC-Watts. Parents, keep your students informed about the uniform policy. 

Back-to-School Night
Back-to-School Night will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. This is a time to visit the school, meet your student's teachers, and learn more about the expectations for the year through teacher presentations.

Website and Online Calendar
Our NDC-WATTS website and online calendar have been updated and will continue to be updated throughout the school year. They are excellent sources for information and upcoming events.

Communication with Families
NDC-WATTS will continue communicating with our families through phone calls, emails, text messages, the website, tele-parenting, and PowerSchool. We will also hold a monthly Coffee with the Principal Meeting in person on Wednesdays. A schedule will be forthcoming.
